Pastor Kyev Tatum: A Crusader for Compassion in America

Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Pastor Kyev P. Tatum has dedicated his life to addressing critical issues and preserving the legacy of those who fought for justice and equality. From Uvalde to New York, from California to the Virgin Islands, from Austin to Washington, D.C., from Starville to San Antonio, and back to Fort Worth, Pastor Tatum is on a crusade to create a “Circle of Compassion” to confront gun violence, heal historical wounds, and honor the unsung heroes of the civil rights movement.

In Fort Worth, Pastor Tatum is leading efforts to honor the legacy of Mr. Robert T. McDaniels, the late principal of Morningside Middle School and a civil rights freedom fighter. Mr. McDaniels served with distinction as a member of the 477th Bombardment Group during World War II and played a pivotal role in the Freeman Field Uprising of 1945, a landmark event in the fight against racial segregation in the U.S. Armed Forces. Pastor Tatum’s work seeks to ensure that Mr. McDaniels’ contributions, both in the military and as an educator, are recognized and celebrated, inspiring future generations to continue the struggle for justice and equality.

His mission extends across Texas and beyond. In San Antonio, Pastor Tatum collaborates with the families of the 24th Infantry Regiment (Buffalo Soldiers) to honor their sacrifices and promote healing. In Millican, Texas, he works with families to confront the generational trauma of the 1868 massacre. From Austin, where he engages in advocacy at the state level, to Washington, D.C., where he amplifies his voice on national platforms, Pastor Tatum is a tireless advocate for justice.

In Uvalde, he stands with families grieving the devastating loss of life due to gun violence, and in Fort Worth, he organizes initiatives like the annual Fun Over Guns event and Farm Fort Worth to address systemic challenges in urban communities. At the heart of his work is his “Circle of Compassion,” a movement uniting individuals, organizations, and policymakers to address systemic violence and inequities.

Through faith, advocacy, and community engagement, Pastor Kyev Tatum exemplifies the power of collective action to build a more just and compassionate society. His efforts ensure that the legacies of freedom fighters like Mr. Robert T. McDaniels endure, while inspiring hope and progress for generations to come.
